On 23 August 2024, the Refugee Changemakers Network (RECAN), in partnership with Sisters in Climate, conducted a transformative storytelling workshop in Kakuma aimed at empowering refugee women to share their experiences and perspectives through compelling narratives.

The workshop brought together 12 women from refugee and host communities, equipping them with practical storytelling skills to effectively communicate their stories, advocate for their communities, and contribute to conversations on climate action, resilience, and social change.

Through interactive sessions, participants learned the fundamentals of storytelling, personal narrative development, audience engagement, and the use of storytelling as a tool for advocacy and community empowerment. The workshop also provided a safe space for women to reflect on their lived experiences and explore how their voices can influence positive change within their communities.

This initiative reflects RECAN's commitment to amplifying refugee voices and ensuring that women and marginalized groups have access to platforms where their stories can be heard, valued, and acted upon. By strengthening storytelling capacities, the workshop helped participants become more confident communicators and advocates for issues affecting their communities.

RECAN extends its appreciation to Sisters in Climate for their partnership and dedication to empowering women through storytelling and community engagement. Together, we continue to create opportunities for refugee voices to be heard and recognized.
